Performance [129] 30-Nov-2017 (Award)

Billboard Women in Music Awards

Notes

Grace recived Billboard's "Rising Star" award. Hedi Klum, one of the judges on AGT, presented the award. Grace sang Moonlight, and gave a moving acceptance speech, that reduced several in the audience (including Kelly Clarkson) to tears.

"In a spell-binding acceptance speech that belied her young age, the 13-year-old starlet hailed the recognition as “life-changing” and “an incredible blessing,” citing the “rough waters” she had navigated to her present prominence. She acknowledged that she didn’t know where her path would take her, but ended by thanking everyone who had “worked their butts off” on her behalf." (Billboard Nov. 30, 2017)

Performers at the event include Kelly Clarkson, Camilla Cabello, and Kehlani.

“The Billboard Women in Music event was created to spotlight female trailblazers in the music industry. Whether entertaining sold-out crowds or signing the next big artist, the women we celebrate are powerful leaders and pioneers, creating inspirational legacies and opening doors.” (Dana Miller, chief marketing officer of Billboard to the Hollywood Reporter Nov. 16, 2017)

The first recipient of the Rising Start Ward was Colbie Caillat in 2008. Among the other recipients are Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande and Halsey. Grace is the youngest ever winner (and probably the youngest winner of any category in the awards)
