Performance [336] 19-Jun-2021 (Homemade)

Notes

Grace went live for more than two hours being very talkative and silly much of the time. She began by singing a Macy Gray song – saying that she had been on a Macy Gray grind lately. She then tried another Macy Gray song (“The Way” at 4:48 in the full video) but quickly gave up. Her next attempt on the Eta James song "Sunday Kind of Love" (at 19:40) went the same way.

During the live she improvised three songs. The first one (provisionally named “Don’t Cry My Baby”) was inspired by a viewer telling her to “sing again – there are people crying”. The second one (provisionally named “Insta Live Struggles”) was inspired by the technical glitches that plagued parts of the live. The last one named by Grace herself: “Live it Out”, surprised even Grace. After she finished she exclaimed. “That was a fucking good song! I don’t know what just happened to me, but I am happy that I caught that on live cause that was good.

She then did an improvisation on Nina Simone’s “I Put a Spell on You”. She also did an improvisation on top of a beat shed created recently (playing on her computer). About that one she explained: “I have been interested in more jazzy music recently; I am on a Jazz grind. I used to be super into Jazz music but I fell out of it and all of a sudden I am back into it, and I wanted to try my best to make a little Jazz beat. Hence the little saxophone.

About Social media
She chatted and talked about a number of things. Among them were a continuation of her talk from her previous live on how she felt about social media: “Lately I have been really terrified of social media. Don’t know what’s going on with that. That is a problem because a major clump of my job does have to do with social media, so that isn’t very helpful, that I am terrified of it at the moment. I don’t want to be a part of it but at the same time I do. … I will never come back to TikTok because that got very messy really fast.

About not singing Moonlight
When someone asked her to sing “Moonlight” she explained why she does not sing that song anymore. “I feel like I can barely sing that song anymore, unless I was screaming it like a freaking rock song. My voice dropped when I hit puberty and it was so high when I made that song and haven’t sung that song in a really long time.

About burping
She also, as had been her habit on many lives since her “transformation” in late 2020, burped quite a bit. When someone commented on that, she explained: “I have this need to burp – its. Not a want, a need. And I spent all day not burping. And I am expressing my love to you through burps.
