Performance [37] 30-Jul-2016 (Headliner)

Free Concert

Notes

Free concert arranged by the Suffern Chamber of Commerce.

".. 860 lucky local fans got the chance to see Grace at the Lafayette Theatre in Suffern . The tickets are free and quickly sold out. Grace performed two sets of originals and cover songs, and did a Q&A after the show. Every attendee was automatically enrolled in a raffle for tickets to see Twenty One Pilots, Grace's favorite band, at Madison Square Garden in August." (https://www.lafayettetheatersuffern.com)

Grace VanderWaal, the wunderkind from Suffern, performed for an adoring hometown crowd Saturday evening at the Lafeyette Theater
Ari Benmosche, the co-owner of the Lafayette Theater, said he thought it would be a great sendoff for the Suffern singing sensation before she heads back to "America's Got Talent" in August. "She really deserves it," said Benmosche. The near-capacity crowd of adoring fans was treated to a mix of original songs like her hit "I Don't Know My Name," as well as covers of both classic and contemporary singles such as "X's and O's" by Elle King and "Breathe Me" by Sia. "It honestly makes me cry how incredible she is. It makes me proud for our town," said Elyse Myszka of Suffern who was there with her friend and her friend's children. "We're rooting for her. Go, Grace!" As Grace prepared to walk off stage after an encore performance, her guitarist summed up the evening. "She doesn't sound good for someone her age, she just sounds good." The crowd went wild.

"The event Saturday evening showed the abundance of love and support for VanderWaal within the Rockland community and beyond. Many of those who attended were from out of state, and a particularly avid fan of hers even came from Australia." (Dailyvoice.com 2. August 2016)

The Lafayette Theatre is a nationally acclaimed movie palace built in 1923. Its primary function is first-run movies, but it also houses special events like its popular weekly Big Screen Classics film shows. It is also notable for housing a Wurlitzer theatre organ, which is played before Big Screen Classics shows. The Lafayette was named one of the "10 Great Places to Revel in Cinematic Grandeur" by USA Today in January 2005, sharing the list with such notable venues as New York City's Ziegfeld Theatre and Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
