Ingrid Michaelson and Grace had a “connection” through Ingrid Michaelson’s song “Keep Breathing” which AGT used as the underlying music for Grace’s audition. Another connection was the title for the "Perfectly Imperfect" EP which Grace in an interview told she had taken inspiration from Ingrid Michaelson’s song ”It doesn’t have to make sense”. Just two days after her semifinal performance on AGT, Grace went to an Ingrid Michaelson concert at The Troubadour in Los Angeles, where Grace would later perform herself. She not only saw the performance but also met Ingrid in person: "... I went to one of her concerts, and I really love her; I love her voice" (The Grammy museum interview 22 July, 2018)
Ingrid reached out to Grace on Twitter to ask if she would collaborate for the Christmas album and Grace just said yes. “Grace has such an old soul voice,” Michaelson said in a statement. “Her sound is so unique; I knew she would bring warmth and energy to the song.” (Billboard Dec 10, 2018)
