"This actually was an inspiration where I kind of knew what I wanted to write before I wrote it. I was in the car, going to the producing session and the radio was on. It is ALL about love, and hatred and people who are mean to you. It seems like all songs on the radio are like that. So, I was in a weird mood, “eaw it’s so annoying, why is it like this”.

The chorus sounded nothing like the chorus sounds now, but then – I don’t know, it started kind of almost developing itself. One of the writers was on their phone on Instagram. It was annoying me so much, I wanted to smack their phone out of their hand. It was so annoying – I would say “what do you think” [Grace pretends to look up distractedly from a phone]. I was like [screams]! Everyone thinks it’s about technology, but that was a split decision to put that in [the part about the phone].

You could sing and write and do whatever about your past for your entire life just dwelling on it, and it just doesn’t matter, because no matter what you say or what you do, it still happened and you can’t change that, nothing you do will change that, and at one point it’s just ridiculous. You just got to find what makes you happy"

REVIEW: “So Much More Than This” is short and sweet. Brevity is a smart choice. The production work is a bit more pronounced compared to “Moonlight,” but not overblown. Even with more instrumentation backing her, Vanderwaal is never in battle with her backdrop – she’s always in command. Even when she’s not belting it out, she’s always the focal point.”
